Self-publishing business. A good choice for passive income?

Let’s take a look at this new, possible way to make money

I have self-published my first book almost 20 years ago. I was a teenager at that time and since then, I have seen the self-publishing market and technology giving more and more opportunities to independent authors. But a few months ago I’ve started receiving Facebook ads from coaches who claim that they can make you rich with this formula. Let’s see if it’s worth it.

What is (traditional) self-publishing?

Self-publishing is a way for authors to sell their books without publishers. They upload their book file, cover and description on websites like Amazon KDP and the resulting e-book or paperback book becomes available for purchase by the customers. There’s no publisher in the middle and the author is able to gain a higher royalty, then.

Self-publishing has permitted several authors to express their voice without the filters of a market and it’s a very useful idea. I can say it’s a cultural revolution that the authors were really in need of.

Of course, self-published authors need to do all the marketing and promotion stuff by themselves, but that’s part of the game. You become the publisher of yourself, so you have to do…
